Alphie’s behaviour
There are a number of behaviours that are built into the Ask Alphie AI assistant, and that remain common across all interactions.
Alphie holds the “thread”
Ask about leavers, then simply say “and the month before?” or “what about Chelmsford?”. The conversation carries, including which member or session you had already settled on.
He uses the right words for people
Alphie takes pronouns from the gender on the member/lead’s own record, and where that is not filled in he writes without gendered pronouns rather than guessing from a first name (which isn’t reliable. E.g. “Alex”).
Alphie knows who is asking
Your identity comes from your login. Nothing you type widens what Alphie will give you access to. A tool your role is not permitted to access is not on the menu offered to you.
You are handed a file, when a long list is the answer
Where the answer is, perhaps, two hundred rows, Alphie summarises in the reply and attaches a spreadsheet. The download link is time limited and inherits your permissions. It cannot be shared with anyone outside of the conversation.
Alphie asks before he writes
Anything that changes something is displayed for your confirmation prior to it taking place. Nothing happens unless you confirm the action – raising a support ticket, building a campaign page, drafting a newsletter, writing an article. Everything else is read-only by design, and only pulls data from GymOS as opposed to writing it.
He tries to avoid ambiguity
We are a sector that use the same word meaning different things. Within the context of GymOS, the word “member” alone could have four different connotations. Therefore, to try to avoid ambiguity, Alphie will name the basis of his interpretation of a word in his response.
Alphie doesn’t make things up
A common failing of AI is that it can “hallucinate” or make things up, presented as fact. Alphie has been coded that, if he has no grounds, he gives no answer. He will not try to work out where something probably lives either, as a wrong answer is worse than a non-answer.
When you hit a dead end
When you cannot find an answer, or where you are dissatisfied with Alphie’s answer, you can raise a support ticket through Alphie. He will summarise the conversation and seek your approval prior to submitting the ticket. The support team will receive a full copy of the conversation transcript attached to the ticket, so they will be able to see your conversation with Alphie, what was tried, and where things came to an end.
