Upgrading or downgrading a membership
It is a frequent event when operating a training gym that members will change their memberships. This could be an upgrade or downgrade, or a move from a trial membership to a regular, recurring membership.
Recommended approach
The cleanest approach to switching a membership is to do it at the membership’s next payment point. In this instance the process would be:
- Cancel the existing membership, with the cancellation date set to coincide with the next scheduled payment.
Ensure that you opt to truncate any credits issued by the current membership. - Add a new membership, with the start date set to also coincide with the next scheduled payment.
- Verify the credits that have been issued and adjust them as necessary.
- Verify the payment points and amounts, and adjust them as necessary.
Alternate approach
In the real world, you might not be able to wait until the next payment point to transition the membership.
If this is the case, the approach is similar to the above. However, you will additionally:
- Select the date points at which you wish one membership to end and the next commence.
- Revise credit allocations.
- Calculate and revise payment amounts.
